Unlock a phone to use on Talkmobile

Why phones are locked

When you buy your phone through a network provider, your phone is usually locked to that network.

Although this may sound unfair, it’s a safety measure. When your phone is locked, it can’t be fraudulently purchased or resold.

You can unlock your phone from your current network to switch between network providers. All you need to do is follow the instructions in the section below.

Unlock an old phone to use on Talkmobile

How to unlock your phone from your current network

To use an old phone on Talkmobile, you'll more than likely need to unlock it. To do this, you’ll need to contact your current network’s customer services to request a network unlock code. Please note that most networks will usually only give you an unlock code once you’ve reached the end of your contract.

Here’s the information you’ll need to have to hand when requesting an unlock code:

  • Your full name & address
  • A phone number you can be contacted on
  • Your email address
  • The mobile number of the phone you want to unlock
  • Your phone’s IMEI number (you can find this easily by typing *#06# on your mobile phone keypad)

How much will it cost?

The cost for unlocking your phone will depend on the prices set by your network provider or the model of your phone.

What to do when you've received your unlock code

Once you’ve received your unlock code, you’ll need to follow the next steps to ensure your phone is unlocked to use on Talkmobile:

  • Turn off your phone
  • Take out your old SIM card
  • Insert your new Talkmobile SIM card

If you're unsure how to take out or insert a SIM, take a look at Introducing your SIM.

Once you’ve inserted your new Talkmobile SIM into your phone, you may need to enter the unlock code given to you by your old network provider. To see what to do with your phone, see the section below:

Please note that if you enter an incorrect code multiple times, you might be locked out of your phone for security reasons.

Unlocking a Nokia or Windows phone

When you’ve put your new SIM card in your Nokia phone and turned it back on, your phone will ask you to enter the unlock code you received from your old network provider.

Simply enter your code and press ok.

Please be aware that if you enter the incorrect unlock code in more than three attempts, you might be locked out of your phone for security reasons.

How do I know if my phone has unlocked successfully?
