More advanced Siri AI
Siri has been given a ground-up makeover, now known as Siri AI, which is powered by Apple Intelligence. It's said to deliver "richer answers" and more "natural conversations" through its upcoming dedicated app. New features of the upgraded AI-powered Siri include Siri AI as a conversational AI assistance for open questions, ideas, and projects. It is claimed that Siri will now be able to understand your personal content, as it is said to be able to search for photos from "years ago" and "easily locate" buried emails and notes saved on your phone. Siri AI is claimed to be more actionable in more apps, such as Messages, Music, Reminders, Podcasts, Emails, Events, and the Phone.
The dedicated Siri app is reported to bring all your conversations in one place across your iOS devices. It's ingrained with the new Siri mode available in the camera, with its "Visual Intelligence" available as an overlay with one tap. You'll also be able to customise how Siri can sound, choosing a new voice, expressivity, tone, accent, and pace. Apple has expressed that you will be able to "write with Siri virtually anywhere you type", as it can generate a from-scratch draft in Messages, Mail, and Siri AI, analysing how things are written by you to produce content that learns and scales with you.
Apple Intelligence powered editing tools
iOS 27 features what's been described as "next-level intelligent photo editing", giving you the option to reframe a photo after it's been taken by using Spatial Reframing. This will allow you to expand shots with the Extend Tool and even remove larger objects through the newly improved Clean Up tool. Image Playground has seen a similar facelift and boost. Letting you create higher-quality images in "any style", including photorealistic options, that can be further modified and transformed for "endless possibilities".
On the productivity side of things, Suggestions can predict and offer what should be said in responding to Messages and Mail based on the context, including setting up calendar events and search-in-photo. Call Context is an extension of this: getting you "relevant information" when on a phone call. Even Apple's default web browser, Safari, has been said to work "smarter for you", automatically grouping tabs by topic, and notifying you of changes, with dedicated alerts. Other quality of life improvements include a fix to password alerts and shortcuts, with which you can "automate daily tasks" with a simple sentence.
Improvements to Child Safety for parents
New expanded parental controls are coming to iOS 27 in Autumn. A whole platform change is incoming straight from the beginning, as you can build a new foundation through Setup Assistant, selecting exactly which apps you want your child to have access to, a manual one-tap whitelisting websites and apps, Communication Safety to block sensitive content, as well as Time Allowance and Schedules to monitor screen time and remotely shut a phone off, all from an "easier to use" dashboard.
Enhanced design refinements and speed of use
iOS 27 delivers a suite of design refinements, such as updates to Liquid Glass and faster overall performance. Chiefly, Apple has claimed that iOS 27 will be able to launch apps "up to 30% faster", with the Photos library and AirDrop transfers seeing respective speed boosts of up to 70% and 80% faster. Apple has also explained that the network transitions will be quicker, switching from WiFi to 4G and 5G, keeping you connected when making calls, "getting off a plane", and being out and about. More granular improvements include the CPU scheduler and app enhancements made to boost certain supported apps.
