LG Nexus 5X in a nutshell:

If you’re looking for a handset that offers all the key features of a top phone at an affordable price, the LG Nexus 5X might be for you. You can get snap-happy with the best ever camera in a Nexus phone, as well as enjoying a fast, smooth overall experience. The 5X doesn’t quite match the high performance of its bigger brother, the Nexus 6P, but it’s a great price for a phone with some very strong specs.

Best for you if: You’d like a phone with loads going for it at an affordable price.

Not for you if: You’re not a fan of Android, or you’re looking for a phone with super-long battery life.

Full description

A little while ago, Google started teaming up with different manufacturers to create the Nexus line of phones and tablets. The idea was to create a range of devices that’d give you the best possible Android experience, without all the extra software that other manufacturers, like Samsung and HTC, put in their phones.

And that’s exactly what you’ll get with the Nexus 5X, with loads of other wonderful stuff besides. You’ll always have the latest version of Android, without any extra apps or skins taking up more of your storage. Coupled with the Nexus 5X’s powerful processor and 2GB of RAM, that means a much faster, smoother experience, whether you’re catching up on emails or browsing the web.

If you’re a fan of photography, you’ll love the camera on the Nexus 5X. LG and Google worked hard to make this the best camera on any Nexus phone yet – and it shows. The Nexus 5X’s main camera picks up details well, even in low light. And if you’re sharing a selfie, then the 5-megapixel front-facing camera should show you in your best light. Things might look a little blurry at full zoom, though – although that can be said for the majority of phones.

The Nexus 5X has a 5.2-inch screen, which displays everything from images to documents brightly and clearly. Wide viewing angles make it perfect for watching a video – and while colours won’t quite be as true as they would on a higher-end phone, you’ll hardly notice the difference.

While the Nexus 5X does pack a lot of power, a few people have noted that its battery life can struggle to keep up. This might be an issue if you’re always out and about, or you don’t want to carry a charger with you. The decision of whether you’re willing to sacrifice super-long battery life for the Nexus 5X’s brilliant other features will depend on your personal tastes though – and it’s not something we mind, ourselves.

There’s just one last cool feature we’d like to tell you about. On the back of the phone, you’ll find a fingerprint scanner, for extra security. It’s a feature commonly found on much higher end phones – and once you get used to unlocking your phone with a touch of your finger, we guarantee that you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

So that’s the LG Nexus 5X. The best of Android, with plenty of power and a great camera, at an affordable price. If you’re willing to make a slight sacrifice on battery life, it really is great value for a fantastic phone.
