What is inadvertent roaming?
Inadvertent roaming occurs if your device connects to a network in a different country to the one you are located in. This could happen if you travel near an international border such as that between Turkey and Greece or between North and South Cyprus. It can even occur between the south coast of England and France. Inadvertent roaming can cause roaming charges which are higher than you were expecting.
What to do if you incur unexpected charges from inadvertent roaming
If this happens, please call us on 5888 (0044 333 304 8064 if you’re abroad) to discuss the issue with our care team.
How can I prevent inadvertent roaming?
We’ll send you a message when you connect to a network in another country. If this isn’t the country you’re travelling in, there are a number of steps you can take to prevent yourself from incurring unexpected charges.
- Review your Talkmobile Spend Limit
- Turn data roaming off on your phone. This can usually be done in your mobile network settings. Manually select a network for the destination you are in. More information on how to do this can be found here. Please note, if you manually select a network you will then need to choose again each time you visit a new destination.
Inadvertent roaming in Northern Ireland
To minimise the impact of inadvertent roaming on the border between Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland, we’ve made roaming in Ireland available at no extra cost for all customers, up to your fair use limit. If you have any concerns, speak to our care team by calling 5888.
